Today we have a very special post in which we will share the current situation that we are facing when we talk about the gender gap in the technology sector.
Currently, we continue to find statistics and comparisons that, with much regret, continue to show us the great difference between women and men in this sector.
What we will see here today is a small comparison and reflection of the statistics for this year 2024, based on data obtained from Manfred, a large search and job offer platform in the sector.
And not only that, but we will also take a little trip to our own Secture offices, We are also growing and moving forward!
Let's talk numbers - The gender gap
We will see some statistics obtained this year, which show the comparative data of men and women classified by some of the different roles we have in this sector.
Comparative graph by role of women in technology
The following graph shows the percentage of women and men performing some of the roles in this sector.

As we commented at the beginning of this post, we will see that in roles such as Tech Lead o Software Architect we still find an abysmal difference. However, we can see that in the role of Product Design (UI/UX) little by little we are getting closer to more egalitarian statistics.
Comparative chart by salary
Here we will see the salary statistics between women and men classified by role. Unfortunately, we will continue to say for another year that men are paid more than women in this sector.

We see in the role of Software Architect The salary is practically at the same level, which is a great step forward. We cannot say the same thing as in the case of Engineering Management, In this case, we found a large difference of €10K.
Comparative chart by role in our Secture offices
We will now move on to analyze Secture. We can see that in our case we are also fighting the current gender gap.
This graph shows the number of male and female workers divided by gender and role that we have in total in our company.

As in the previous comparisons, in Secture we can see that there is also a big difference between women and men. The role that stands out the most with a great difference is the role of Backend Developer, with a difference of 13.
Fortunately, we can say that more and more women are applying in our company every year and we are lucky to have many of them in our company.

But it doesn't end there!
It's not all about statistics and big differences.
Globally, we have many initiatives that help and combat this gender gap.
We are familiar with large organizations such as Google Women Techmakers whose purpose is nothing more than to give visibility, help and support to all women who want to enter this sector, or in the case of professionals, to continue growing in their professional career.
You can be either a member or an ambassador and you can contribute in any way you can to this community.
On the other hand, we find more and more technological events to give the opportunity to any woman to learn more about the sector, as well as to participate as speakers or to organize such events.
Some of them are:
We also have other initiatives that are not so focused on the technology sector, but that help to break the gap, such as A WOMEN, which focuses on helping and supporting gender equality by developing, creating and advocating standards to close the current gender gap.
In Spain, without going any further, we have a Equality plan for subsidized companies, in order to facilitate the integration of women in different jobs.
And ending...
Despite the many differences and difficulties we continue to face on a daily basis, we are in a moment of progress and learning, which, fortunately, is constantly growing and developing.
Every year we are fortunate to see many positive changes in our society, and although there is still a long way to go, this always encourages us to continue in this process and keep fighting for what is right.
